Empowering Women, Transforming Communities

As part of our commitment to women’s empowerment, Progynist has been implementing the “Strengthening Women’s Livelihood through Sustainable Income Generation” project using our own internal resources. The project took place in Addis Ababa, Yeka Sub-City, Woredas 11 and 12, and has not only empowered women but also contributed to the social and economic development of the community.

The main goal was to build the capacity of women to establish and manage small businesses. A total of 50 women—prioritizing those with no prior business experience but a strong desire to learn—were selected. They received training in basic business management, financial literacy, and awareness on GBV prevention and response.

Following this capacity building, participants developed their own business plans. Groups with viable plans were provided with interest-free startup capital. Many of the women have since launched successful small businesses, including selling kitchenware in local markets, clothing, and other goods.

This initiative has helped a significant number of women achieve financial independence, develop savings habits, and gain economic stability—bringing not only income but also confidence and personal satisfaction.

Progynist is proud to fulfill its responsibility in empowering women, even without external funding, and we are delighted to share this success story.
