Who We Are
Progynist is an indigenous Ethiopian civil society organization established in 1997, dedicated to advancing the rights and wellbeing of women and vulnerable communities. Over the years, Progynist has built a strong reputation for addressing critical social issues through impactful, community-centered interventions. The organization implements evidence-based programs in areas such as gender-based violence prevention and response, women’s political participation, education, women’s economic empowerment, environmental protection, menstrual health management (MHM), WASH, child protection, and reproductive health.
Progynist works closely with government institutions, grassroots communities, and international partners to ensure sustainable and scalable results. With a strong emphasis on advocacy, capacity building, and service delivery, the organization fosters gender equality, social justice, and economic opportunity. Progynist is committed to creating a safe, inclusive society where women can live with dignity and thrive free from violence, discrimination, and marginalization.

Governance
Progynist is a women-led organization governed by a 7-member board, 6 of whom are women, chaired by a woman. Daily operations are overseen by a female Executive Director appointed by the board.
