Celebrating decades of dedication and service to Ethiopian women and vulnerable communities!
Advancing Human Rights for Women and Children
For more than twenty years, Progynist has worked hand-in-hand with communities across Ethiopia to protect the rights of women and children. From rural villages to urban neighborhoods, its mission has been clear: raise legal awareness, challenge injustice, and build safer, more informed communities.
Through grassroots campaigns, legal education, and advocacy efforts, the organization has helped dismantle harmful traditional practices and promote gender equality. It also created Women for Justice Groups, trained local paralegals to handle such cases.
The result is a growing network of empowered individuals and communities committed to lasting change.

Empowering Education at All Levels
Our organization believe that education is one of the key factors that will allow women and girls to thrive. In most rural areas many children did not have the chance to receive basic education, to change that we have worked tirelessly with many partners and communities to provide the educational support and facilities.

Savings and Credit Empowerment
Building Financial Independence for Women
Our Savings and Credit program has been instrumental in empowering both rural and urban women through targeted business training. The program offers a comprehensive approach—starting with literacy-based savings education and extending to entrepreneurship and skill development.
Formation of Savings Groups
We actively encourage women to organize themselves into savings groups, enabling them to collectively manage their finances and gain access to essential credit facilities. These groups not only foster financial discipline but also strengthen community bonds and mutual support systems.
From Training to Transformation
With years of experience and impactful outcomes, this initiative laid the groundwork for the establishment of a dedicated microfinance institution. Today, that institution operates independently and is fully licensed by the National Bank of Ethiopia, continuing the mission of economic empowerment for women across the country.
Highly Vulnerable Children Program
The Highly Vulnerable Children (HVC) Program is designed to support orphans and children at risk due to poverty, neglect, or loss of parental care. By addressing their educational, emotional, and social needs, the program helps children overcome barriers and build a path toward a brighter future. Through a holistic approach, we work closely with families, schools, and communities to create safe, nurturing environments where every child can thrive.
School Support
Provided school fees, uniforms, counseling, and tutorials to orphans and vulnerable children.
Community Ownership
Strengthened local community structures to protect children and take ownership of support programs when problems surface.
Counseling & Support
Offered emotional and psychosocial support to children at risk and their families through expert counseling.
