Impactful Collaboration for Women’s Empowerment in Amhara Region!

Progynist is a Lead organization for a consortium that includes Pro Pride and Emanuel Development Association (EDA) to implement a UN Women funded project, “Amplifying Women’s Role in Managing The Devastating Effects of War in Shewa Robit town of North Shoa zone, Amhara region.” On May 7,2025, the partners convened a semi-annual performance review meeting in Debre Birhan town. This gathering focused on discussing the significant strides observed in the implementation of the project.

Our project’s core goal is to empower women to actively participate in leadership at all levels of humanitarian crisis management including combating gender based dviolence and providing support for women survivors of gender based violence (GBV). The review meeting brought together key government signatories, diverse stakeholders, and chairpersons of the 36 women saving and credit associations to assess progress.

We are proud to share key achievements from the first six months of implementation:

* Provided essential drug supplies to 2 government health facilities.

* Empowered 540 conflict-affected women by establishing 36 Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs) to rebuild their livelihoods and economies shattered by repeated conflicts. The 36 groups saved ETB 304,650 from their meager income during the last 8 months alone.

* Delivered various training on Gender Equality and Equity, Networking and partnership building, Business development services, on UNSCR 1325,

* Provided crucial psycho-social support to over 70 Gender-Based Violence (GBV) survivors.

* Advanced the construction of a vital one-stop rehabilitation center in Shewa Robit.

We extend our sincere gratitude to UN Women, our CSO partners, government counterparts, and the resilient women leaders of the 36 groups organized in Shewa Robit for their unwavering commitment. Together, we strive to enhance women’s leadership and resilience in the face of crisis!
